2022-04-06

There are a lot of messaging apps now. They differ in the set of functions, the level of security and encryption, and availability on different gadgets. Besides, each mobile operating system offers its users proprietary chat services. Android is no exception in this regard. In 2014, the Google Messages application appeared, which supported messaging on smartphones of this platform. Gradually, its functionality expanded, and now you have the opportunity to use it to send RCS, SMS, and instant messages within the same system.
At the moment, you can install the application not only on a smartphone or tablet but also on wearable devices and use the web version on laptops and computers. It is the last option that we will discuss in this article.
Installing Google Messages on Desktop
The Messages service, developed by Google, was explicitly created for the Android platform. Since 2021, it has been installed on many smartphones of this system by default, in particular Samsung Galaxy. So if you have one of the new models, most likely, you already have this app. If not, you can easily download it from Play Market in seconds.
Download Google Messages on your smartphone and set it as the default app in the settings. After that, follow these steps:
-
In any convenient browser on your computer, go to the official website of Messages by Google.
-
On the main page, in the upper right corner, you will find the “Messages for Web” button. Click on it to open a page with authorization in the service and a QR code.
-
After that, you need to open the app installed on your portable device.
-
In the settings menu (upper right corner), find the option “Device pairing.”
-
Now, you need to scan the code from the website. To do it, tap “QR code scanner” to open the camera in the application.
-
Bring your smartphone to the screen of your laptop or computer to read the code. You may need to increase the brightness to make the smartphone recognize the image faster.
-
As soon as the QR code is read, both your devices will be automatically rebooted.
-
You can now see your chats and contacts from the app on the Google Messages web page.
Let the app memorize your computer, so you don’t have to log in every time you close it. Please note that the device pairing feature is available for applications updated to version 3.3.043 and later. If you have an older smartphone model with an outdated edition, you will not be able to use the service’s web version. There is currently no standalone app for PCs and laptops.
Using Google Messages on Desktop
Messages by Google work in all popular browsers. You can also use it on computers with any operating system, even though Google has its own OS. Using the web version is not much different from the app on portable devices. The menu and main interface look the same. Even your smartphone contacts are synchronized with the new linked computer, and for it, it is not necessary to log in to your Google profile.
Since the settings are usually set by default when using the service on a new device, check them to make using Messages as comfortable as possible. You will find the settings under the button with three dots. Here you can customize notifications, change the main theme to dark, and choose ways of sending messages through a keyboard.
Messages for Web is an excellent option for using your favorite messenger on computers or laptops. As you can see, you will have a bit of hassle with authorization, but then you can easily communicate with friends from different devices. Keep in mind that the service only allows authorization in one browser. If you log in on another device, the previous session will be closed. Do you use Google Messages? What do you like about it.
