The reliable source WABetaInfo, which keeps us updated on upcoming changes to the popular messenger, said that the company is working on expanding the capabilities of the “Status” option. It appeared back in 2017 in the form of a separate tab and has not undergone any changes since then. Now the developers are actively working on it, and it seems they are planning to make your contacts’ statuses reflected directly in the chat list.

WABetaInfo has published a screenshot that shows that you can see your friends’ status by clicking on their profiles. In its mechanics, it resembles Stories of another Meta platform, Instagram. The image shows us the desktop version of the messenger, but it’s reported that this feature will also be available in mobile applications on both platforms. Besides, “Status” also gets the quickly respond option in the form of a small set of emojis that people can use to respond to the status of their contacts.

Another beta update that was revealed recently is the opportunity to run polls in group chats. All members will be able to vote for their choice and see anonymous voting results. The tool was initially seen in beta for computers and laptops; later, it also appeared on mobile devices. Although the developers seem to be actively working on this feature, there has been no official announcement about when it will become publicly available.

Among other small innovations, WABetaInfo noticed that in the Android version, there was a mention that all messages are end-to-end encrypted (in the footer). It’s probably not the most valuable update for users, but it’s good to know that your messages cannot be intercepted.

Do you use the “Status” feature in WhatsApp? How useful will the described innovation be for you? Do you plan to conduct surveys in your groups?
